Stayed here for 1 night for Irish Olympics last Augst. I would highly recommend as Sue is a fab hostess. Rooms are top class and excellent breakfast. Hopefully we will be back again this year.Quotes

As noted elsewhere, the Guesthouse is above the Shines pub; enter at the back of the building. Warning: entry is by an outside staircase to the first floor reception, i.e. no one is waiting to help with luggage. The guestrooms are spacious and comfortable; the bathrooms well equipped and quite large. The rooms at the back (low numbers) have no view to speak of but also little noise. There is a pleasant open common lounge with television. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast room is large, the food is fresh, the choice is adequate and plentiful. Any special requests, such as decaf coffee and skimmed milk, were filled with a smile. The formerly mentioned retail has gone entirely and there is now a surprisingly good restaurant which can be entered through the pub or at the back, next to the Guesthouse stairs. Last orders for dinner are taken at 9 p.m. We stayed only 1 night, en route from Dublin airport to Connemara and found it an excellent choice.Quotes

We stayed at Shines Guesthouse in late July 2012. It's a sweet little hotel, not the fanciest and some of the decor is a bit faded but clean, tidy, and looked after. We often have trouble finding places to stay that don't require us to rent two separate rooms (and thereby blow our budget) to accommodate the two adults and three children in the family. They put an inflatable bed in the room for our smallest (10yo) and there was still plenty of space for everyone to move about. The two girls who cooked breakfast were happy to make up what our three picky girls asked for and the price was 99 euros including breakfast for the five of us. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly in every way.Quotes

I followed the sign to reception UPSTAIRS only to see another sign telling me to go the bar DOWNSTAIRS to book in and then return UPSTAIRS again - I needed to connect to wifi (free) but there was no phone in my room so I had to go DOWNSTAIRS again to get instructions and back UPSTAIRS again with staff member. Room was very clean and tidy. No table or chairs in room. No reception on telly in bedroom - admittedly, this was the first night of the new 'digital only - no analogue' broadcasts - no central heating in the morning (and the radiator knob was missing so, I couldn't turn it on (if that was the problem). Very good nights sleep. Very good and tasty breakfast in the morning (but for some reason when I asked for milk for the tea she brought me out that awful UHT milk ugh!!!). In spite of all the above I would go back again and would encourage others to do likewise.Quotes

I can't comment on the rooms as I haven't stayed here but I've eaten in their restaurant for lunch on a few occasions with a few girls from work and we all agree that the food is just divine. The staff are really friendly. Will be back - recommend :-)Quotes
